Frequently asked questions
The most common questions we get from our clients
Your tan will last 5-7 days and can last longer if you follow the tan care instructions. (See below)
A sunless tan fades just like a tan from the sun. As your body naturally exfoliates itself, your tan will fade. Proper hydration and care is key to a lasting tan.
Upon arrival, your tanning technician will consult with you your tanning options, taking into consideration your individual skin tone and desired results. The session will take approximately 20 minutes, please allow 30 minutes for your full tanning appointment.
Yes, we do! Check out our https://sunglazedtans2go.com/gallery/ of our SunGlazed beauties!
Yes, DHA has been approved by the FDA for use in the personal care industry for years. No adverse effects have been reported other than mild skin irritation on allergic people. Allergic reactions are extremely rare and can usually be eliminated by showering. Although no problems have been reported, we recommend that pregnant women wait until after their first trimester and or discuss airbrush tanning with their doctor prior to their session.
No, it does not protect you. It is recommended that you use a sunscreen that won't harm your spray tan.
Stay away from sunscreen that contains oil & alcohol. Unfortunately, most sunscreens contain at least one if not both of these ingredients.
We recommend that no matter which sunscreen you choose, you moisturize from head to toe with a good quality moisture cream or lotion first. Next apply one of these great sunscreens that have ditched the oil and alcohol, and therefore won't dry out your skin or fade your tan:
Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen
This sunscreen lotion is available in SPF 30 and SPF 55. It contains NO oil or fragrance, so it is delicate on skin and spray tans. It is water resistant and protects from UVA/UVB sun rays. Although it is called "clear face," it is perfect for use on the face AND body. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Bodymist Sunscreen
If you are looking for quick and convenient application, this spray on sunscreen may be for you. Also oil free, this sunscreen comes in SPF 30 and SPF 45 and is applied by way of a light mist. This sunscreen is ideal for the body (not the face) as it is easy to apply to hard-to-reach areas. This sunscreen contains a small amount of alcohol, so we recommend moisturizing skin with a thick, good quality moisturizer before application.
Coppertone Oil Free Faces and Oil Free Lotion
Coppertone has a line of oil-free sunscreens that are hypoallergenic and also contain no fragrance. Faces comes in SPF 30 and body comes in SPF 15. This sunscreen is also water resistant for up to 80 minutes. Keep in mind that long dips in the pool, ocean, or lake will dry out your skin and break down your spray tan faster, so keep swimming sessions short!
The airbrush is a precision instrument that allows for a smooth, flawless application. Spray booths have little control over the product's flow and where it will land on your body. Tanning via the sun or any type of tanning bed causes harmful damage to the skin and will lead to premature aging and fine lines.
If you have never airbrush tanned before, we STRONGLY suggest you do a test run at least two weeks prior to the main event (wedding/photoshoot/vacation/first date etc). Even if you have tanned before, every company’s solution is different and you may want to make adjustments. We don’t want you to feel too light or too dark on your big day!
Clients can wear whatever they feel comfortable wearing and may choose to tan topless or naked. We are professionals and will make every effort to accommodate your needs and make you feel as comfortable as possible, whatever you choose to wear.
The active ingredient in sunless tanning products is DHA (dihroxyacetone). A colorless sugar, DHA interacts with the proteins in the outer layers of your skin to produce a golden brown color. Gone are the days of orange tones associated with self tanning products. Our solutions are designed to look natural on all skin tones, the color is PERFECT!
Typically only one session is needed to achieve your desired color.
SunGlazed Tans carries a variety of tanning solutions and we are highly experienced working with all skin types and colors. For the most natural results, we suggest choosing a lighter shade on your first visit, then gradually try darker shades until you reach optimal color.
Rapid solutions are a more convenient way to spray tan. They still produce the same flawless results you expect to see with a traditional tan, but allows you to wash off in a fraction of the time, meaning you can get back to being you quicker. After you’ve rinsed the bronzer off you can exercise, go dancing with your friends, and even get caught in the rain without having to worry about ruining the development of your tan! Keep in mind that this does not mean that you will tan quicker- both types of tans last the same amount of time. Remember with the Express tan you will lose your color after your first shower. But your color will gradually get darker within 8 hours.
Be sure to use an oil-free exfoliant. Here are some good examples you can use to exfoliate-Neutrogena, St Ives has an Apricot Scrub, and Aveeno carries a exfoliating body wash. You can also easily make your own sugar scrub by just adding sugar to your body wash. For best results you should exfoliate the day before or 8 hours before your spray tan and be sure to rinse well after exfoliating.
Do not use AHA products (Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Glycolic, Lactic, Malic, Citric, and Tartaric acids)
Anti-acne products that exfoliate or dry the skin – Accutane, and Salicylic acid, can affect tan fading. Antibiotics or other medications that affect your skin, can also affect your tan.
Anti-aging products that “renew” or “refresh” or otherwise exfoliate skin.
Bar soaps, especially deodorant, or antibacterial varieties. One bar soap and/or shower gel in particular is Dove. Curel lotions also have been known to ruin a tan.
BHA Products (Beta Hydroxy Acids-salicylic acid)
Body hair bleach products will bleach the tan, non-bleach skin lighteners are fine.
Bore type adhesive facial strips, or “peel-off” masks
Bug spray, perfumes, body sprays when sprayed directly onto skin, can remove or fade the tan. Instead, spray clothing, or spray a “cloud” of spray that you can walk through, instead of directly onto skin.
Facial masks and exfoliating scrubs. It is recommended that you do these before a spray tan.
If you exercise and sweat heavily your tan can fade faster, especially in body fold areas. (arm bends, knee bends, between breasts etc.)
Tan Care
Preparation is key for a perfect spray tan. With these tips and tricks, your SunGlazed tan will be easy peesy:
BEFORE YOUR SPRAY TAN APPOINTMENT:
Shower, Shave, and Exfoliate 8 hours or more prior to your session. When exfoliating pay close attention to dry areas such as knees and elbows.
24 hours before your tan avoid using bar soaps, oil based products or in-shower moisturizers. These products may act as a barrier causing your tan not to set properly.
Manicures, pedicures, waxing, and massages should be done before your tan.
Make sure your skin is free of any makeup, lotion, deodorant, perfume and moisturizer as they can affect the result of your tan.
During your spray tan, feel free to wear whatever you feel comfortable in, such as underwear, bikini, thong, old swim suit or you may go Au Naturel.
For the ride home you want to wear something loose fitting preferably dark in color. For footwear, we find that non-leather flip flops are best.
If you have leather seats in your car, we recommend bringing a towel to sit on for your ride home. (The cosmetic bronzer can stain leather)
If rain is in the forecast remember you must stay completely dry for 8 hours after your tanning session. (1-6 hours for our rapid tan) Plan ahead and wear long sleeves, long pants, cover your feet, and please bring an umbrella. Remember no washing dishes or giving the kids a bath until after your first shower
What you do after your spray tan:
It is recommended that you wait a minimum of 8 hours to shower after your tan. (Unless you choose our rapid tan) Once you shower you will see the cosmetic bronzer come off in the shower, this is normal, it's just excess solution coming off. Your first shower should be a quick warm water rinse. Pat your skin dry with a towel do not rub.
It is recommended not to exercise or carry out any activities that may cause perspiration between the tanning and showering phase.
All spray tans take a minimum of 8 hours to achieve a good color. Typically it takes 24 hours for your spray tan to be completely developed.
Take quick showers or baths and "pat dry."
Moisturize twice daily.
Swimming and/or the use of hot tubs/saunas is not recommended. Salt water is a natural exfoliant and chlorine slowly fades your color.
A tan extender is recommend to prolong the life of your tan.
